The facility is located in Mackenzie, a town that is traditionally characterised by the timber industry and has a regional airport. Mackenzie is located 670 kilometres north of Vancouver and 170 kilometres north of Prince George.

The District of Mackenzie acquired 11 acres of land to establish data centres and stimulate additional economic activity, which has been declining due to recent sawmill closures.
The facility will create approximately 15 full-time jobs in Mackenzie. The facility will provide long-term revenue streams to the District of Mackenzie and the local community over the expected life of the business of several decades.
The facility is connected to BC Hydro's transmission grid and is powered by 100% renewable energy, which BC Hydro says is currently 98% from clean or renewable sources (primarily hydro) and 2% from the purchase of RECs.
Due to declining industrial demand over the past few decades and additional renewable generation capacity, BC Hydro has excess generation compared to load, and the data centres can absorb some of this excess capacity, which under the regulatory model in place in British Columbia has the benefit of lowering rates for other BC Hydro customers.
